Gear are a critical component in systems to mechanically transfer torque in many devices including steering systems, transmissions, and motor drives.  NN Inc. has the precision manufacturing capabilities to produce many pinion, worm gears, and other gears.  

Our gear manufacturing technology includes gear shapers gear hobbing, and precision gear machining.  NN Inc. has a gear manufacturing process that can optimally meet our customer’s gear type,  tolerance, and production volume requirements.   

 

Gear Hobbing


The gear hobbing is process uses a conical cutter. During manufacturing both the cutter and the workpiece rotates with the cutter revolving around the gear blank.  This process is suitable to make  spur gears, worm gears, sprockets, and pinions.

General Tolerances

  • OD: +/- 0.01 mm
  • ID: +/- 0.01 mm
  • Angular position 0.050 mm
  • Concentricity 0.020 mm

Hobbing is more accurate the machined gears but less accurate than grinding.   It is suited for high volume lower mix production

Gear Shaping


The gear shaping is a process that uses a cutter made to the geometric profile of the gear. The reciprocating motion of the cutter and the rotation of workpiece creates the desired gear shape. Helical gears, internal gears, and spur gears can all be manufacturing using gear shaping.

Gear Shaping is more accurate the machined gears but less accurate than grinding.  It is capable complex tooth profiles.   It is suited for high volume lower mix production.

Multi-Axis CNC Turning Centers


NN Inc has Multi-Axis CNC Turning Center with wide ranges of capabilities making them well suited for Low volume high mix components.  Machines are capable of drilling, milling, hobbing, broaching and skiving.
